Slowly but surely tools stopped being made by people who actually knew tools since they were using them themselves and then all kinds of silly design came out or they lost the small details that were important. Witness their silly idea of making the saw handle big enough to fit your whole hands in there. Still required a 3 fingers grip

BobValley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-64072895616428135302021-01-24T16:12:03.371-04:002021-01-24T16:12:03.371-04:00On the 720 being a firmer or a paring design, I ca...On the 720 being a firmer or a paring design, I can point to quite a few examples of the marketing folks in tool companies seeming to have a lot of dubious things to say about the stuff they are promoting. I suspect that the Stanley folks chose words based on their perception of sales potential, as opposed to accuracy. When you look at the silliness that went into the designation of their endless variations of planes, or the notion that one might carry a chisel around in one's pocket, one is tempted to suspect that they may have had issues with sobriety as well.Craig Duplernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-13932180444927469732020-06-14T01:19:11.024-03:002020-06-14T01:19:11.024-03:00One of the best articles that I’ve read in a very ...One of the best articles that I’ve read in a very long time! The blade are thicker than my beloved Hills-Galt but should be fine, Thinner than the new Narex paring chisels anyway.

These older Marples should be exquisite for paring, cant wait to see them

Bob, who now has 3 sizes of paring chisels 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inchValley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-57295443254533786282018-06-09T02:07:18.648-03:002018-06-09T02:07:18.648-03:00Bob,

They are a little short for most things I use a bench chisel for, but whatever the steel and handle are tough and stand up to abuse.

In a week or so I'll post about my new to me Marples paring chisels once they arrive from the UK. I hope they are as nice as the photos.

ken I'm a OK guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11843155822153452980noreply@blogger.com
