Myself I prefer the wooden ones and the LV brass one with wooden plugs. But like I said, what is more important is to uses whatever one feel right in your hands and for you kind of work. Hammers and mallets are a very personal thing :-)
Cheers
BobValley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-86629786179100767072016-01-27T07:56:12.618-04:002016-01-27T07:56:12.618-04:00Hi Bob,

The nice thing with this hammer is the you can interchange the heads. There are different heads in different hardening available. So you can use the hammer for very different tasks.
Cheers,
StefanAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17569365598390231433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-63540705477498195982016-01-26T19:42:54.728-04:002016-01-26T19:42:54.728-04:00HI Matt interesting feedback about your laminated ...HI Matt interesting feedback about your laminated mallet, what kind of glue did you used?

Bob
Valley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-65009298608788603402016-01-26T19:02:42.771-04:002016-01-26T19:02:42.771-04:00I made my mallet a couple years ago laminated from...I made my mallet a couple years ago laminated from three 1" thick maple pieces. Done this way because of time constraints, lack of 3" thick stock, and lack of confidence that I could get a 4" long mortise straight and with flat interior surfaces. So far the mallet is holding up, and I've used it a fair amount, but I've not too extensively. But if and when it fails, I'll be thinking about this post.

Thanks again Bob - good stuff.Matt McGranenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1627331616161641107.post-12672156786146607622016-01-25T10:07:49.453-04:002016-01-25T10:07:49.453-04:00I have never tried a laminated mallet construction...I have never tried a laminated mallet construction but I always suspected they would fails at the glue lines. I have made 3 over the years and all broke apart. None of them lasted more than 6 months. I would guess it's about 24 oz and I love it for mortising. I'm not sure what it's made of - it looks like bronze but doesn't oxidize like it. I'd guess it's a mixture of copper pennies and lead sinkers:
http://i.imgur.com/1HqTmNy.jpg

Paul Bouchardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02932534546505831256noreply@blogger.com
